Medical Disclaimer & Telehealth Consent

Last updated: 2026-04-19

Medical emergency? Our service is not for emergencies. If you are experiencing chest pain, severe shortness of breath, heavy bleeding, loss of consciousness, signs of stroke, severe allergic reaction, or any other serious condition, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.

1. General medical disclaimer

The content on thevirtualtravelclinic.ca — including articles, vaccine pages, destination guides, FAQs, and blog posts — is provided for general educational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of a qualified health professional with any questions about a medical condition or before making decisions about your care or travel health.

Reliance on any information on the site is strictly at your own risk. Medical knowledge and destination-specific health recommendations change rapidly; while we make every effort to keep content current, we cannot guarantee that every page reflects the most recent guidance from PHAC, CDC, WHO, or provincial regulators.

2. Scope of our services

Our physicians provide pre-travel preventive care only. We do not diagnose or treat acute illness, manage chronic disease, provide mental-health crisis services, prescribe controlled substances except where explicitly appropriate for travel, or act as your primary care provider.

3. Informed consent to telehealth

By booking a virtual consultation with us, you acknowledge and consent to the following:

  • Your consultation may take place via video, telephone, or secure messaging. You must be physically present in Canada at the time of service.
  • The physician cannot perform a physical examination. Diagnosis and prescribing are based on the history you provide and on visual assessment where video is used.
  • Network issues (poor audio or video, disconnections) may affect the quality of care and may require rescheduling.
  • If the physician determines during the visit that in-person assessment is needed, they may refer you to a walk-in clinic, emergency department, or specialist, and may decline to prescribe certain medications.
  • Information shared is subject to our Privacy Policy and stored securely. Consultations may be documented in a clinical chart as required by the physician’s regulatory college.
  • You must provide accurate, complete, and current information about your health history, medications, allergies, pregnancy status, and travel plans. Omissions or inaccuracies may affect the appropriateness of the care provided.
  • You understand that virtual consultation is one of several options available to you, including in-person care. You are electing telehealth voluntarily.
  • You may withdraw consent at any point during the consultation; fees may still apply per our Terms of Service.

4. Prescriptions & vaccines

All prescribing and vaccination decisions are at the sole clinical discretion of the treating physician. We do not guarantee that a particular vaccine or medication will be prescribed or administered. Yellow Fever certification is issued only after on-site vaccination at our designated centre where clinically appropriate.

5. Allergic reactions & post-vaccination monitoring

Vaccines, like any medical product, may cause side effects. Serious allergic reactions are rare but possible. Patients must remain at the administering pharmacy for at least 15 minutes after vaccination for observation, and seek immediate medical attention for any signs of a severe reaction (difficulty breathing, facial swelling, rapid heartbeat).

6. Destination health advisories

Health advisories for international destinations are issued by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO). We incorporate current guidance into our consultations, but you are ultimately responsible for checking and complying with entry requirements for each country on your itinerary.

7. No guarantee of outcomes

We do our best to prepare you for a healthy trip, but vaccines and prophylactic medications are not 100% effective. You should continue to practise food and water safety, insect-bite avoidance, and other behavioural precautions as advised.

8. Questions

If you have questions about this disclaimer or would like clarification before booking, email info@thevirtualtravelclinic.ca or call (437) 525-4142.
